How to Prepare for Your Consultation

We feel privileged to help you during at such an important and precious time.  We  are looking forward to meeting with you.  Please read over these suggestions that other women have found helpful in preparing for a consult with one of our IBCLCs (International Board Certified Lactation Consultants):

Complete the attached Intake Form. Download here.

Bring a list of questions/concerns so we can prioritize.

Method of payment can be cash or credit card in office.  For Home visits, check with your IBCLC  for preferred method of payment.   You will be given a superbill to submit for reimbursement.

Check with your insurance company for reimbursement requirements, like pre-authorization or referral from pedatrician’s office. For more information on insurance reimbursement, click here.

Bring your OB/GYN / Pediatrican / Heath Care Providers contact information.

Bring daily feeding logs with 24 hour totals, and  baby’s weight history.

Bring your baby due for a meal, and if possible hold him/her to encourage sleep until the the consultant arrives. (We understand babies don’t have schedules :-)

Bring any breastfeeding aids tried in the past, such as breastpumps, nipple shields, syringes, shells, latch assist etc. (We have these supplies available in the shop as well)

Bring additional milk for baby if needed.

Bring baby diapers, burp cloths, blankets.

The mom/expectant mother should wear a  blouse, sweater, hoodie or other top that opens in the front.

Bring a bottle of water/snack for Mother/expectant mother.

Having a support person present is very helpful and strongly encouraged.
