Insurance Reimbursement
Did you know that lactation consultations, breastpumps and other supplies can be reimbursed by your insurance company?
Many insurance companies have started reimbursing for our services, and you should take advantage of it! This short guide is meant to make it easier for you to understand your coverage and get you reimbursed for any services or supplies that are covered under your plan.
Before your consultation/before buying or renting pumps and other supplies:
Call your insurance company and ask if your plan covers lactation consultations and/or breastpumps and supplies. Sometimes, insurance companies require pre-certification or a letter of medical necessity in order to cover any lactation services. If this is the case, ask exactly what information they need. Also, find out which address you should send your claim for reimbursement to.
At your consultation/at the time of purchase:
We will fill out an insurance form for you to send to your insurance company. On this form we will choose the appropriate CPT codes and IDC-9/diagnosis codes for your situation. These codes reflect either the purchases/rentals made or the diagnoses of baby and mother. We will always give you an insurance form after a lactation consultation; if you would like one for your rental/purchase please ask for one.
After your consultation/purchase:
Please fill out your personal information on the top of the insurance form and send it to your insurance company. If your claim is denied for any reason, call your insurance company and find out why it was denied. If there is anything more that The Breastfeeding Center could provide in order for you to be reimbursed, please email us at info@breastfeedingcenter.org with any requests.
