You’re Still a Great Parent If… (Affirmations & Support)
By Tamaris Flemming, Masters of Public Health Candidate & Intern at The Breastfeeding Center
Parenting isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s messy, evolving, and deeply personal. Whether you’re breastfeeding, pumping, formula-feeding, or somewhere in between, it’s easy to question yourself. At The Breastfeeding Center, we want you to know: you’re doing better than you think.
Here are some affirmations and reminders for the moments when doubt creeps in:
💛You’re still a great parent if…
…you chose to combo feed to keep your sanity.
Mental health matters. Feeding choices aren’t just about nutrition they’re about the whole parent-baby dyad. If adding formulas helped you rest, reconnect, or feel more like yourself, that’s a win.
…you skipped a pump session. Or two. Or ten.
Life happens. So does exhaustion. Missing a session doesn’t erase the dozens you’ve already done. You’re allowed to be human. Milk supply ebbs and flows, and there’s help if you need support getting back on track.
…you don’t love breastfeeding.
Not everyone enjoys the experience and that’s okay. Loving your baby doesn’t mean loving every aspect of parenting. Your bond isn’t measured in ounces or emotions during a feed.
…you decided to stop breastfeeding.
Weaning is not failure. Sometimes it’s necessary. Sometimes it’s chosen. You are still nurturing, still bonded, still doing what’s best for your family. And we honor that.
…you needed help.
Whether you’ve worked with a lactation consultant, asked your pediatrician a dozen questions, or leaned on a friend at 2 a.m., getting support is a sign of strength, not weakness.
A Note from The Center:
Parenting is full of “shoulds” and “supposed to’s.” At The Breastfeeding Center, we offer support, space to pause, space to reflect, and time to connect.
You’re doing hard things every day. You’re learning, adapting, and loving your baby through it all. That’s what makes you a great parent.
