All recipient families must be currently working with an IBCLC, and must have a prescription from their HCP for Donor Breastmilk. Effective 11/16/2023, we can dispense up to 39oz total per family, if you have a need for a larger quantity of donor milk or have a medical need that requires long term use, we urge you to reach out to The Bank of Austin directly.
All recipient families must have a prescription from their Health Care Provider. Once received, please submit your prescription to us using this form here.
If you are not sure if you submitted your prescription, or if you would like to confirm receipt, please text or call (202) 293-5182.
MAX 5 BOTTLES PER BABY, PER DAY, WITH A MAX TOTAL OF 39oz. When Donor Milk is in stock we ration at 5 bottles per family per day to ensure we can keep milk available to as many families as possible. This means any given order placed or picked up can be no more than 5 bottles M-F, or 10 bottles on Saturday (as we are closed on Sunday). Any order larger than this, or any recipient who has exceeded 39oz total, will be cancelled and refunded.
If you need milk beyond the total 39oz or more than 5 bottles we can provide, or long term services due to medical need, please reach out to the milk bank at milkbank.org.
The batch number is for tracking inventory and does not reflect any variation in the composition of milk. You can order any of the batch numbers below.
Pickup your milk on the same day as ordered. Milk cannot be shipped, couriered, or picked up on any other day than the order date unless the Center is closed.
No. Orders can only be picked up at The Breastfeeding Center. You can, however, have some one pick up your order on your behalf.
Unfortunately Donor Milk is not currently covered by most insurance companies, but please contact your insurer if you have questions.
If you do intend to submit this to insurance or to your FSA or HSA, for reimbursement please use your name for billing and your baby’s name for shipping so that your receipt contains the necessary information to submit.

Book an appointment with an IBCLC if you’re not already working closely with an out-of-hospital lactation consultant. While it’s wonderful that we have access to this precious donated milk, we want to be sure we get to the root cause of needing the donor milk in the first place so that you and your family are given the tools needed to meet your breast/chestfeeding goals.
