Healthcare Practice Manager

The Breastfeeding Center for Greater Washington's mission is to support families from pregnancy through the transitions of early parenthood with relationship-based care, evidence-based instruction and resources, and integrative health services for lactation.
Position Summary
The Practice Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the Center’s clinical and programmatic operations, including scheduling, staffing, financial systems, insurance billing, and compliance. The Practice Manager ensures the Center operates efficiently, sustainably, and in alignment with its mission. This role works closely with the Board of Directors to implement strategic plans, optimize workflows, and uphold high standards of client care.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Compliance
Lead the planning, organization, and oversight of all clinic and program functions.
Conduct routine assessments of operations and recommend improvements to support growth and efficiency.
Ensure compliance with healthcare, legal, and safety regulations.
Staffing & Supervision
Lead recruitment, hiring, training, evaluation, and performance management of administrative staff, clinical staff, interns, and support personnel.
Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance workplace culture.
Provide mentorship and professional development for administrative staff.
Prioritize equity in maternal/child health by ensuring diverse representation among staff, addressing barriers to access, and embedding culturally responsive practices into all aspects of operations.
Financial Management
Develop, monitor, and report on budgets and financial performance.
Oversee billing systems—including insurance billing—vendor contracts, and adherence to GAAP (alongside Accountant).
Maintain monthly financials, oversee state reporting, and support tax preparation in collaboration with the Accountant.
Reporting & Systems Management
Manage EMR system, scheduling platforms, and digital tools for documentation.
Maintain administrative reports and program data, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Implement and maintain insurance billing reports and client tracking systems.
Client Experience & Quality Assurance
Work with Clinical Director to ensure high standards of client care and satisfaction.
Implement systems for feedback and continuous improvement.
Support integration of trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and equity-centered practices to ensure all families receive accessible, respectful, and high-quality care.
Strategic Collaboration & Communication
Work with the Board of Directors and staff to advance organizational goals.
Collaborate with the staff and the Board to operationalize strategic plans.
Work with program staff to ensure seamless coordination of classes, consults, and shop functions.
Qualifications
5+ years of leadership experience in healthcare practice management.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in business, healthcare administration, or related field preferred.
Demonstrated expertise in financial management, insurance billing, compliance, and policy development.
Proven ability to lead teams, manage change, and foster inclusive workplace culture.
Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Interest in maternal/child health, breastfeeding, and family wellness.
